Downers Grove Zine Fest (Planning Stages)
There are some well known zine fests in Chicago itself, but very few out in the suburbs. In fact, the only one I know of is Hoffman Estates, which is holding its second annual zine fest on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 11:00-4:00. I plan on being there to sell /mæn-ʌs/ A Chicago Art Zine - hope to see you there!
Anyway, it occurred to me that I could take a little bit of time (how’s that for optimistic) and plan a zine fest for the suburb I currently reside in, Downers Grove. There’s not a lot of culture here and not much for kids or alternative folks to do, so a zine fest might provide a few hours of fun for those inclined to come out for it.
The current plan is to rent the meeting rooms at the local library and set up for a few hours this coming Spring, maybe late May. Why there? Good foot traffic, a central location in town, has parking nearby and is also served by public transportation. Why then? There are a few gaps in the yearly schedule of zine fests here in the Chicago area. Seemed prudent to not compete with others more established.
Fingers crossed that this works out. I’ll keep you all posted as things progress and hope to see you this Spring.
